Post Op Instructions

Dogs

FEEDING: Just like anesthesia in people, anesthesia can make
your pet a little nauseous. So this evening, you may feed them about 1⁄3 of
what they normally eat and drink. If they get carsick on the way home start
with a little water (just no large meals).

INCISION/SUTURE SITE We do need to keep them from bothering
(licking) their incision so if they get really obsessive with licking you may
need to get an ecollar (lampshade).

Buried sutures If you have buried dissolvable sutures (nothing
on the skin) those will be under the skin so there won’t be anything to remove
but the skin will heal over those in a couple of weeks . No swimming or baths until
then.

IF THE INCISION GETS REALLY BRIGHT RED OR STARTS TO OOZE, PLEASE
CALL THE CLINIC.

Skin sutures These sutures will be seen on the incision site
and need to be removed in 10 – 14 d a y s . We will take them out at no charge;
just call and set up an appointment. No swimming or baths until
the sutures are removed.

Pain Medication If you opted into pain medication, they were
given an injection immediately following their procedure but you can start the
oral pain meds later this evening (dosage on container).

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO
CALL. It will not cost you anything for us to take a look at them so just give
us a call.

Cats

FEEDING: Cats are fairly good about regulating themselves after
anesthesia. We do recommend that you keep them warm and somewhere they can not
hurt themselves. They can be over excited by stimuli so a quiet place is best.
They will eat and drink when they are ready, but try to limit their meals to
about 1⁄3 the first evening.

INCISION/SUTURE SITE Males will have incisions but no sutures.
They should heal just like scabs. Females will have buried dissolvable sutures.
Those will be under the skin so there won’t be anything to remove but the skin
will heal over those in a couple of weeks. No swimming or baths until
then.

IF THE INCISION GETS REALLY BRIGHT RED OR STARTS TO OOZE PLEASE
CALL THE CLINIC.

PIN MEDICATION If you opted into pain medication, they were
given an injection immediately following their procedure but you can start the
oral pain meds later this evening ( dosage on container.)
